State Meet Summary: (From Calprep Track Web Site) -

Trials:

History was made with 12-00 taken to qualify for the Finals. Wow!!! There are probably less than ten states nationally where the winning mark is 12-00 or better. Golden Staters lead the nation in this event!!! With that good a level of vaulting someone had to be left behind, with 12-03 Michelle Rivera (Birmingham) among the top 15 in the entire nation not able to vault Saturday off her 11-06 clearance in qualifying. Hopes are for some good consistent wind conditions for Saturday with the big crowd capable of lifting folks to some great heights.

Finals: (Revised From Calprep Track Web Site)

Very inconsistent and wildly changing in direction winds made this kind of scary at the start. 12-00 on Friday was answered with only five of the nine who could clear above 11-09 today! An 11-03 starting height had Katie Nishimura (Bella Vista) and Whitney Johnson (Mission Viejo) take three trials, with Atascadero’s Monica Pacas taking two, the other six in the field first vault successes. Everyone was also over 11-09, with Whitney Johnson and Chelsea Johnson (Atascdero 13-06 jumper) taking two attempts, and Elizabeth Woepse (Mater Dei, Santa Ana) needing three trials there to be successful. At 12-03, Pacas, Woepse, and Kristen McGregor (Marina, Huntington Beach), and Whitney Johnson (Mission Viejo) went out, cutting the field to five. Chelsea Johnson was warming up with first clearance efforts at 12-03 and 12-09. Kacey Lundgren (Atascadero) was over 12-09 for a pr, with Janea Russ, Katie Nishimura, and Kira Costa done there after a 12-03 best this day. At 13-03 Chelsea was still sharp, sailing over on her first attempt, with teammate Lundgren not able to clear. At 13-08.5 (a half inch over the National Record set by Shala Balentine of Morro Bay last year in the State Meet) it was interesting. Timing the wind was a hassle, with a second attempt miss that had to shake the confidence a tad. After some wait a good third attempt was a miss, but finished the event and the early meet action with some good sense.

Awards Banquet: The 2002 Bella Vista High School Girls and Boys Track and Field Awards Barbecue and Potluck will be held on Wednesday, May 29 at 5:00 pm at the Bella Vista High School Cafeteria.  The ceremony will be open to the athletes and their families who successfully completed the 2002 track and field season up to, and including, the Capital Athletic League Championship Meet.  The Bella Vista Bronco Track Club will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, and soft drinks.  The remainder of the potluck will be provided by the track and field event team members coordinated  by track and field parent volunteers.  Bring enough to serve eight (8) to ten (10) people for the dishes indicated below: Hurdles Team - Chips, Dips, and Condiments - Coordinator: Mrs Cook; Shot Put/Discus Team - Chips, Dips, and Condiments - Coordinator: Mrs. Sheridan; Distance Team - Salads - Coordinator: Mrs. Holman; Sprint Team - Salads - Coordinator:  Jolene Harlos; Jumps Team - Desserts - Coordinator: Mrs. McAllister.  IMPORTANT NOTE: ALL ATHLETES MUST HAVE TURNED IN THEIR UNIFORMS (SHORTS, TANK TOP, AND SWEAT OUTFIT) IN ORDER TO RECEIVE THEIR AWARDS.  YOU MAY TURN IN YOUR UNIFORM AT THE BARBECUE TO COACH U (BOYS) OR COACH  FAGUNDES (GIRLS).  PLEASE RETURN THE UNIFORMS CLEAN AND IN A BROWN PAPER BAG WITH YOUR NAME ON IT.  Thank you for your cooperation and support!!

The following Varsity Athletes were CAL Champions and because of this made the CAL All League Track and Field Team:  Michael Gertz - Pole Vault, Michael Kaufman - High Jump, Derek Porter - Triple Jump, Lauren Hoffman - 400 meters, Tara Harmon - 3200 meters, Veronica Stimson - High Jump, Brysun Stately - Pole Vault (CAL All League Team).

Although there is no all league team for the frosh/soph boys we did have quite a few league champions from Bella Vista.  Freshman Ben Lehmann was a double winner in the 1600 and 3200 meters.  Josh Benton, also a freshman won the 110 meter hurdles and the high jump.  Nick Hein won the long jump, Aaron Harbert - triple jump, Ryan Stadler - shot put, Sam Corcos - Triple Jump.  Our 4 x 100 relay team of Sam Corcos, Ryan Smith, Josh Benton, and Greg Schirmer took home first place as well.

PR News From Nevada Union Invite: Another great meet for the Broncos at Nevada Union HS on Friday (5-7-04).  Super Frosh Lauren Hoffman tied the BV school record in the 200 meters with a 25.94c clocking and in winning the 400 meters set a NU Invite meet record for the frosh/soph girls division with a time of 59.9.  Senior Nicole Garces set a personal record of 33' 10" moving her to number 6 all time in the triple jump.  The vertical jumpers also did well with Freshman Sami Hartley taking 5th place with a PR 10' 6" vault and Junior Brysun Stately vaulting 11' 0" also her PR and moving her into a tie for second place all time in the pole vault.  Other personal records of note - freshman Dan Rosanski jumped 5' 8" in the high jump, junior Mike Gertz went 13' 0" in the pole vault, junior Julian David jumped 39' 3" in the triple jump, Freshman Kim Dorey ran 2:32.0 in the 800 meters.

Athletes of the week for 4/19 to 4/24: High jumper Jackie Bardosi for the girls.  She set personal records in the high jump at Wednesday's center meet (4'10") and then again on Saturday at the Bronco Invitational (5' 0") for 5th place and also made the all time list.  Pole vaulter Michael Gertz won it for the boys with a PR performance at the same two meets (12' 6").

All Time Lists Update From the Bronco Invite:  Freshmen Lauren Hoffman came within 4/100's of a second of breaking the school record in the 200 meters at the Bronco Invitational (April 24).  Her time of 25.98 (5th place at the Bronco Invite) puts her in 3rd place all time in that event.  Also, sophomore Jackie Bardosi made her first appearance on an all time list at the same meet with her 5'0" clearance in the high jump which was good for 4th place at the meet and makes her tied for 9th place all time!  Freshmen Josh Benton broke the freshmen school record in the 110 meter hurdles clocking 16.45.  His time was also better than the sophomore school record as well.  Pretty good for someone who wanted to quit hurdling and try a different event.

Personal Records Abound!:  At the CAL Center Meet # 3 (4-21-04) the Broncos posted several personal records (PR's) and a few moved up on the all time list again!  Leading the way was Lauren Hoffman with her 59.34c 400 meter win she climbed up the all time list to a solid 5th place.  Lauren also ran 26.84c in the 200 meters good for a tie for 6th all time.  Not to be out done Junior Sara Wang jumped onto the pole vault all time list at a tie for the 5th spot with a vault of 9' 0".  Some of the many PR's that were achieved on Wednesday were Derek Porter - Long Jump 20' 8" and Triple Jump - 41' 4.50", Jackie Bardosi - High Jump 4' 10", Colton Harmon - Discus 115' 11", Jenny Downs - Shot Put 29' 6" and Discus 80' 10", many more!!!!

I Need Video:  I have not taken much video this year for the end of the year video I make.  If you are interested in helping email Coach U at daveu@surewest.net.  I have a camera you can use.  The best time to do it is this Saturday 4-24 at BV.  I will need to talk with you to let you know what I need.

McAllister Breaks 11 foot Barrier:  On Friday, April 16 competing in the Woody Wilson Invitational at U.C. Davis, senior Ashley McAllister pole vaulted 11' 0".  That vault was good for second place at the prestigious meet and moved her into second place on the all time list!  She also has the second best vault in the Sac Joaquin Section this season and is only 3 inches behind the leader.

BV's Woody Wilson Qualifiers: Girls Pole Vault - Ashley McAllister, Brysun Stately, Sami Hartley, Kari McAllister, Veronica Stimson (Amy Balch - 11th alternate), Boys High Jump - Mike Kaufman (Dallin Parkinson 8th alternate), Boys Triple Jump - Alex Yu, Girls High Jump - Veronica Stimson, Girls Triple Jump (Nicole Garces 7th alternate), Girls 400 Meters - (Lauren Hoffman - 4th alternate),  Girls 3200 Meters - (Tara Harmon 3rd alternate), Girls 4 x 400 Relay - (Kim Dorey, Brysun Stately, Ashley McAllister, Lauren Hoffman).

Athletes of the week for 3/29 to 4/3: For the girls the award goes to freshman pole vaulter Sami Hartley.  On Saturday, April 3 she won her first invitational ever beating a field of 16 other schools!  For the boys Junior Jack Reilly gets the nod for his gutty performance in the 1600 meters.  After falling down he still came back to PR!

Another List For Hoffman! On Wednesday, March 31 freshmen Lauren Hoffman found herself on another of BV's all time lists.  This time she won the 400 meters at the CAL Center Meet 2 running a season best 61.14c good for 7th place all time.  She also ran 27.24c which improved her 10th place time in the 200 meters.  Our freshmen girls just keep getting better and better!  What will it be like in four years?!!!!

Athletes of the week for 3/15 to 3/20:  Every year we give out an athlete of the week award to a boy and girl for the weeks when we have league meets.  The center meet and league finals dates are March 17, March 31, April 21, and May13.  Last weeks awards went to Tiffany Yu for her performance in the first center meet.  She placed 4th in the triple jump with a 30' 6.50" and 6th in the long jump at 14' 4".  The boys winner was Greg Imamura for his gutty performance while he was sick in the same meet in the1600 (2nd at 4:56.2) and the 3200 (3rd at 10:57.7).  Athletes will receive a "Bella Vista Athlete of the Week" t-shirt.  Nice job Tiffany and Greg!

BV Accepted Athletes To Stanford Invitational: The following athletes have been accepted into the Stanford Track and Field Invitational on March 26 and 27.  On Friday March 26 at 5:00 pm Ashley McAllister and Sami Hartley will be in the pole vault.  On Saturday March 27 Nicole Garces - triple jump (9:30 am),  Alex Yu - triple jump (9:15 am), Veronica Stimson - high jump (9:15 am),  Dallin Parkinson and Michael Kaufman - High Jump (11:15 am).

Hoffman and Luse Make All Time Lists! At the first CAL center meet on March 17, 2004 freshman Lauren Hoffman moved onto the 10th spot on the all time list for the 200 meters running 27.34c and sophomore Michelle Luse entered the 400 meter all time list with a tie for 8th place by running 62.44c.

More Movement On The All Time List!:  It seems like every meet we have freshmen Veronica Stimson advances on an all time list.  On March 13, 2004 at the Capital Athletic League Invitational Veronica moved from a tie for 8th at 5' 0" to a tie for 7th by jumping 5' 1".  That jump was good for a 3rd place finish at the meet.  The crowded girls pole vault list got a little less crowded at the same meet when Kari McAllister vaulted 9' 0" to move her up to a tie for 5th with Veronica.  It now takes 8' 6" or better to make the girls pole vault all time list.  Most schools school records aren't 8' 6"!

A Record and Moving Up on The All Time List!: At the Clark Massey Memorial Relays on Saturday, March 6 freshmen pole vaulter Sami Hartley broke the freshmen school record held by Katie Nishimura (1999) and Ashley McAllister (2001) of 9' 6" by vaulting 10' 0".  Her 10' 0" clearance was also good enough to move her into 4th place all time in the pole vault.  Fellow freshmen Veronica Stimson moved up to 5th on the all time list in the pole vault for the second straight week clearing 9' 0" at the same meet. These two freshmen ladies combined efforts were good enough to take first place in the pole vault relay team competition against all other varsity competition. Looks like blue skies for Coach Taft for the next for years.  Another mark to note was Alex Yu's 42' 1" triple jump.  A very fine effort this early in the season.

All Time And Just A Freshmen:  In just her first meet as a Bronco without knowing it freshmen Veronica Stimson made Bella Vista's all time list in two events.  In a meet against Ponderosa and San Juan (3-3-04) her 8' 6" performance in the pole vault places her tied for 5th all time and her 5' 0" clearance in the high jump makes her tied for 8th place in the high jump.  Way to go Veronica!  It will be exciting to see what she can do with the rest of the season in front of her.  Another mark of note - Ashley McAllister vaulted 10' 6".  An excellent early season mark making her one of the top vaulters in the section this year.

We Need Officials: Parents - we need some help with officiating for our meet on Wednesday, March 3.  I have not had many parents sign up to help time or work at the field events.  If you have some time please come by.  We need people to help measure, rake, record, and time.

Thanks To All!  On Thursday, February 26 we had our annual Bronco Card Sale and if early totals are correct it looks like it was a huge success!  We brought in over $4,600.00 in sales and gave away over $400.00 in cash prizes.  Even though it rained a bit everyone who showed up had free pizza and soda so it turned out to be a pretty good time.  Thanks to all of the members of our team who donated their time to go out and sell the cards and to the parents for transporting and buying.  A special thanks to Lee Dorey, Jacqui McAllister, and Doug Grush for helping out Thursday night with organizing the drive.

Turn In Your Paperwork!: To receive your uniform you must first hand in your emergency card and rules sign off sheet.  Girls give yours to Coach Fagundes and boys to Coach U.  Both should be filled out and signed by a parent/guardian and the rules sheet should be signed by the athlete.  Our first meet is on Wednesday, February 25 so get it in on Monday!

Thanks! A big thanks to Justin Farabee for his generous donation of some shelves for our storage bin.  This is going to make it a lot easier to organize things and it has created more room for us to buy more stuff! 2-17-04

Fleet Feet Spike Night:  Fleet Feet at the corner of  Madison Avenue and Fair Oaks Blvd. is having its annual "Spike Night" on Thursday, February 19 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  Track spikes will be on sale to BV track athletes for 15% off.

Practice Schedule 2-16-04 to 2-20-04:  All groups will meet Monday through Friday with their event coach during the following times - Pole Vaulters will meet with Coach Taft at 10:00 am, Jumpers will meet at 1:00 pm.  Distance runners will meet with Coach Fagundes at 10:00 am.  Throwers meet at 3:00 pm with Coach Myer and sprinters and Hurdlers will meet at 3:30 pm with Coach Haynes.    If an athlete does different events they should meet with there primary coach to discuss a workable schedule.  Athletes who's primary event is sprinting or hurdling but also do a jumping event should follow this schedule - High Jumpers Tuesday & Friday, Long/Triple Jumpers Monday & Thursday then work with Coach Haynes the remaining three days.

Track and Field Team Parent Meeting: We will have our Spring Sports Parent Meeting on Wednesday, February 11 in the large gym - please make this date part of your schedule. From 6:30 - 7:00 pm Bella Vista Athletic Director Mike Lee will talk to the parents of new BV athletes for all of the spring sports about how high school athletics works and what to expect.  It is very important that we get new athlete parents to the 6:30 meeting, it'll answer a lot of questions.  You need not attend the 6:30 session if you have already gone through it with another sport this year or last year.

At 7:00 pm sharp he will be done and send the parents off to meet with the coaches for each individual sport parent meeting.  The track team parent meeting will not leave the large gym as we have the largest group.  We will begin at 7:00 pm when the gym is clear of the other sport groups.  Times to remember: 6:30 - General athletics meeting in large gym for all spring sports.  7:00 pm - Track and Field team parent meeting in large gym.

Topics for the track meeting will include team rules, goals, competition schedule, travel to away meets, fund raising and other volunteer opportunities.  Hope to see everyone there!

Physical Clearance In?  If you have had your physical turn in your clearance slip to Coach U before our February 2 start date.  This will help us save time during the first few days of practice.

2004 Season Track and Field Team Meeting: There will be a track and field team meeting on Wednesday, December 10 at lunch in the big gym.  This is a very important meeting to attend to receive information about the up-coming track and field season.  If you have any friends who want to come out make sure that they attend!

Lauren Hoffman Breaks Two School Records At SMOC!  On Saturday (4-30) sophomore Lauren Hoffman showed that she is one of the best sprinters in the Sac Joaquin Section when she broke two school records in the 100 meters and 200 meters at the 2005 Sacramento Meet of Champions.  Her first record of the day came in the 100 meters when she won her heat at 12.37 improving her own school record by a huge .28 seconds.  She was 3rd overall in that event.  Later on she broke a three way school record tie in the 200 meters by running 25.69 placing her all alone at number one in school history in that event.  In the evening invitational session a tired Hoffman ran a fine 400 meter time of 58.62 for seventh place running into a strong wind and from lane nine.  Congratulations Lauren!.

Frosh/Soph Boys Break Record! The sophomore boys relay team of Allen Thrall, Greg Schirmer, Patrick Ashen, and Sam Corcos broke an 18 year old record in the 4 x 100 relay by running 44.52 seconds at the Sacramento Meet of Champions.  That time was good enough to place second at the prestigious meet.

Another Thank You!  Thanks to Tim Hodge and T.L. Hodge Construction for their help with putting in our recognition plaques up at the track.  You can check them out at the main entrance to the track and at the shot put rings.  Because of Mr. Hodge people will be able to enjoy these plaques for years to come.  What a great gift!

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! It is amazing how things came together before and during this last week before the CAL Invitational.  First, a big thanks to Kreig Kaufman for all of his hard work delivering sand for the jump pits, mowing the grass around the track, and taking care of the golf cart batteries.  Thanks to all of the BV parents and our Track Booster Club who gave of their time to help out at the meet.  Thanks to the BV athletes who helped out the week before and during the meet.  Thanks to the schools of the CAL for doing such an outstanding job helping run the meet.  We had nothing but compliments from the visiting schools about how well the meet was run.  Thanks to the weather!  These types of events can not be put on by one or two people.  We need great people like yourselves to accomplish great things.  I hope everyone had a good time!

All Time List Update! There were a few Broncos who achieved all time list marks at the CAL Invitational on March 12.  The McAllister Sisters, Kari and Diane, each contributed to the list.  Kari (11) improved her mark to 10' 6" (tied for 4th all time) and Diane (9) made her list debut at 8' 6" (tied for 9th all time).  Mike Gertz (12) cleared 13' 6" to enter the list for the first time tied for 9th all time.  High jumpers Veronica Stimson (10) and Jackie Bardosi (11) equaled their PR's and all time marks on Saturday.  Veronica jumped 5' 4" to win the meet and Jackie went 5' 0" to tie for 4th.

Clarke Massey Relays All Time List Update!  Tiffany Yu (11) became a member of her second all time list at the Clarke Massey Relays on March 5.  Jumping 15' 5" in the long jump Tiffany entered the list at 9th all time!

Inter-squad Meet Highlights!  The team scores are not finished being tabulated but here are some individual highlights.  Veronica Stimson (10) lead the way with marks of 10-6 in the pole vault (tied for 4th place all time) and 5-2 in the high jump.  Patrick Ashen (10) 41-2 in the triple jump.  Mike Gertz (12) 13-6 in the pole vault.  That ties him for 9th all time.  Derek Porter (12) jumped 20-11 in the long jump (2.5 inches off 10th all time).  Jenny Downs (11) threw 29-10 in the shot put (less than a foot off 10th all time).  Looks like another strong group for the Broncos in 2005.  Look for more full results soon.

Sac Bee's All Metro Teams! Veronica Stimson 1st Team!

BV Star Crushes Pole Vault Record! Bella Vista star Veronica Stimson made a statement in a big way on Friday night (5-25-07) at the Sac Joaquin Section Masters meet tying a Masters meet record in the pole vault, winning the masters meet pole vault championship, and shattering her own school record by vaulting 13 feet.  To put it into perspective here is what 13 feet means.  She has the best pole vault mark in the Sac Joaquin Section this year (Sac Joaquin Section Best Marks List!) and tied for number two all time, she has the third best mark in the state this year (State Best Marks!), she is 11th on the California State all time list, and finally she is ranked in the top 10 nationally (National List).  It also ties her for number 15 all time on the Bella Vista Boys pole vault list!  Wow!  This is truly one of the greatest performances in Bella Vista track and field history!  Way to go Roni! (again).  Thanks for the memories!

Veronica Stimson Continues to Amaze!  At today's Sac Joaquin Section Masters Meet (5-24-07) BV high jumper/pole vaulter extraordinaire Veronica Stimson qualified for the CIF State Meet for the second year in a row in the high jump going 5-06 inches.  That height was good for second place.  Tomorrow Roni tries for a second birth into the same state meet when she competes in the pole vault.  If you can, come out and support her and catch a great track meet!  Way to go Roni!!!!!

Senior Veronica Stimson set a school record in the pole vault vaulting 12-04 at the Sac Joaquin Section Division 2 Finals on Friday!  She broke Katie Nishimura's record of 12-03.  In vaulting 12-04 she also became the division 2 pole vault champion.  Congratulations Roni!

Sac Joaquin Section Best Marks List! through April 25, 2007

Thanks: I would like to say thank you to all of the people who helped out at the Bronco Invitational.  I joke with the kids on the team that the week of this meet is the most stressful of my life (which means I have a pretty good life!).  The thing is with all of the help I get from the coaching staff, parents, and team I really don't feel the stress quite as much.  This year's addition was one of our most successful.  Thanks for making it happen!

U

Athletes of the Week:  For the week of our first center meet (March 7) the Bella Vista athletes of the week were Fred Carino and Megan Capistrano.  While competing in four events each, both were major contributors to their teams wins at the CAL center meet and had outstanding performances at the CAL Invitational on March 10.   Congratulations!

Team Parent Meeting:  There will be a team parent meeting on Thursday, February 15 at 7:00 pm in the Bella Vista cafeteria.  This is a very important meeting so we need as many parents to attend as possible.  We will be covering team rules and guidelines, transportation, season schedule, fund raising, and other volunteer opportunities.  Hope to see everyone there!

Really?!?! It's 2:45 pm on Saturday, March 24 still no rain. That's almost six hours of no rain when we could have had a meet. Here is the forecast from this morning - Clouds will be on the increase tonight and rain will be developing Saturday morning. It will likely rain for most of the day in the valley and points to the west. The foothills and Sierra have a better chance of staying cloudy with lighter rain. Sunday should be a showery day throughout the area with snow above 4000 feet. How do weather forecasters keep their jobs? Worst forecast ever...

Four State Meet Qualifiers For Bella Vista! It was a good two days at the Sac Joaquin Section Masters Meet for the Bronco track and field team. Four of Bella Vista's finest were able to secure a spot to the California State Championships which will be held next week in Clovis. To qualify athletes needed to place in the top three in their event or achieve a state meet at large mark.

The first to qualify on Thursday (May 23) was senior Sarah Reinhardt in the high jump. Sarah placed third with a jump of 5-03 (video of Sarah's qualifying jump) making her one of the three auto qualifiers for that event. We had to wait another day for our next state meet birth when junior McKenzie Sup broke through with a huge PR in the long jump. McKenzie bettered her own school record jumping 18-09.25 (video of McKenzie's big jump) good for second place. Next up was freshman Kendall Derry in the 1600. Her impressive prefomance and school record 4:56.23 earned her a second place finish and her first trip to the state meet (video of girls 1600 meters starts at around 26 minutes into video).

Finally senior Cory Barger showed one of the most clutch preformances of the night. Cory was in fourth place going in to the last round of jumps and needed to be in third place or jump the state meet at large standard of 22-08 to extend his season to next week. His best jump in the competition up to the final round of jumps was 22-06.25. On his final attempt he landed in the pit with a jump that measured 22-11.25 (video of Cory's last jump) securing a spot to Clovis next week!

Bella Vista Athletes Show Their Quality At SMOC: Yesterday at American River College the Bella Vista track and field team went head to head with the best Northern California had to offer and came out shinning at the 33rd addition of the Sacramento Meet of Champions. The event was highlighted by 8 Bella Vista all time list marks and one school record!

Freshman Kendall Derry broke Anne Kuphaldt's 25 year old 1600 meter school record of 5:03.33 by running 5:01.94 good for 3rd place in the very competitive Invitational Session. The assault on the all time list was led by Daniel Gow in the 1600 meters and McKenzie Sup in the 400 meters. Both athletes knocked two BV legends down a notch on the all time list. Daniel took third place in the Invitational 1600 with a number two all time list time of 4:16.03 moving alum and all around famous guy Nick Sparks down to third on the list. Daniel's time was the best in the Sac Joaquin Section so far this year. McKenzie placed 2nd in the Open Session 400 meters running 57.30 good for 2nd all time in Bella Vista history and moving the great Jill Moss down to 3rd on the 400 meter list.

Other all time marks were posted by Cory Barger in the long jump at 22-00 - 4th all time, Bryce Gwaltney in the 300 hurdles ran 41.97 - 20th all time, Shelby Dozier in the high jump went 5-04 - tied for 4th all time. The boys 4 x 100 relay team of Andreas Litton, Cory Barger, Darren Myers and Robert Britschgi ran 43.68 ranking them 6th all time. Finally the boys 4 x 400 relay team of Andreas Litton, Tyler Miguel, Bryce Gwaltney and Robert Britschgi ran 3:26.18 placing them 9th all time. This was one of the more memorable meets for the Bella Vista coaches in years! (posted 4-28-13)

So Many Records! On Friday, April 19 at the Woody Wilson Invitational the girls distance medley relay team of Kaitlin Derry, McKenzie Sup, Ashley Feldkamp and Kendall Derry broke a school record that was previously set 27 years ago. The old record of 12:15.51 was established at the Mt. Sac Relays in Southern California back in 1986 with the team of Ann Kuphaldt, Mary Kuphaldt, Theresa Meza and Traci Banuelos. The new record is now 12:08.47 with the girls splits being 3:48 (Kaitlin), 56.3 (McKenzie), 2:20 (Ashley) and 5:03 (Kendall). This makes a clean sweep of the distance relays this year! What's next... the girls 4 x 400? (posted 4-20-13)

More Records Here is a quick update of some class/team school records that were overlooked or just recently broken. The girls long jump team of McKenzie Sup, Hannah Johnson and Sierra Fisher set the school record of 48-08 on April 17 at the Rio Linda center meet with McKenzie bettering her own individual school record jumping 18-06.50. Andreas Litton did in fact lower his own school record in the freshman 200 meters to 22.92 at Wednesday's center meet in Rio Linda. As it turns out Kendall Derry's times in the 800 (2:17.64), 1600 (5:06.57) and 3200 (11:21.77) meters are all frosh/soph class records! These have been already set and so early in the season so look for them to be lowered again in the coming weeks. We are going to spend a fortune on plaques at the end of the year! (posted 4-20-13)

Andreas Litton Breaks Freshman 200 Meter Record! BV Freshman Andreas Litton broke the oldest school record on the books yesterday (4-13-13) at the Bronco Invitational. The old record of 23.34 set by Richard Mackey back in (are you ready for this?) 1965. That makes it a 48 year old record! Andreas' time was 23.07 which was good for 5th place in the varsity division. I have a feeling we will see this record lowered a few more times this season. Congratulations Andreas! (posted 4-14-13)

Boys 4 x 1600 Break 32 Year Old Record! Yesterday (April 5) at the prestigious Arcadia Invitational the boys 4 x 1600 relay team of Brynn Sargent, Drew Childs, Andrew Petersen, and Daniel Gow broke one of the oldest records that we have for the BV track team. Running 18:15.26 the boys broke the old record of 18:24.14c set way back in 1981! The 1981 team consisted of Joe Kuphaldt, Dan Morse, Mike Lee, Harold Kuphaldt. That is the same Harold Kuphaldt that coached the team to the record. (posted 4-7-13)

Girls 4 x 800 meter Relay Record Falls at Stanford! Last week the relay team of Ashley Feldkamp, Renny Castanon, Kaitlin Derry, and Kendall Derry broke a 27 year old school 4 x 1600 meter relay record. Eight days later on March 30 the same four girls broke a 28 year old 4 x 800 meter relay record by running 9:24.98 at the Stanford Invitational. The old record of 9:53.54 was set in 1985 and was held by Ann Kuphaldt, Mary Kuphaldt, Terri Dillon, and Jacinta Showers. The girls now have their sights set on the Distance Medley relay record set back in 1986. Stay tuned! (posted 3-30-13)

2014 Bella Vista Track and Field Announcements

A message from Andy (7-24-14):

Today marked one month since the accident that left me paralyzed below my shoulders. As I slowly regain function I realize that this isn't a death sentence. Although... you may never see me running on the track or setting up a rally again, I'm still the same Andy Wu. In the past month I've been blessed with the love and support of my friends and family and I cannot thank you all enough. I'm happy to say that I will be home within the next two weeks and my hope is to be joining everyone for the first day of school. A big thank you to the people who have continually been by my side and have come visited me. I love you all.

Andy Wu Update 7-12-14: Coach Sup, his family and Coach U visited Andy on Saturday at the Vallejo rehab center. He was in good spirits and even laughed a few times. He continues to get a lot of visitors which is great so keep the support coming! He is able to sit up and use a stylus to dial his phone so he is able to communicate with no problem. He said he is going through an exhausting 3 top 4 hours a day of rehab workouts. That is a long time to workout for anyone but I think we all know Andy is the type of person who can push through this. He has a few tentative timelines. He will need to wear the neck brace for 12 weeks and he may be coming home by July 30. There is still a lot of work ahead for Andy and his family so again, keep praying!

Andy Wu
Andy Wu

Andy Wu has been transported to a rehab facility in Vallejo. Visitors are asked to call and set up an appointment if they want to see him. You can call 707-651-1000 and ask to be tranfered to his room. He will be rehabing at the Kaiser Permanente Rehabilitation Center in Vallejo. Cards can be sent to 975 Sereno Dr, Vallejo, CA 94589 (Room #3024). This will be a long hard battle for Andy but we know he has the heart to make it through this. Keep fighting Andy! Keep praying everyone!

Tragedy strikes BV Track and Cross Country: The BV track communities summer has gotten off to a very tragic start. We are asking for prayers for two of our team members and their families. This last week freshman Tyler McJunkin's father died in an accident working on a family vehicle. Services for Brian McJunkin will be on Saturday, June 28 at 10 am at Sunrise Community Church on Greenback. On Tuesday, June 24 junior sprinter Andy Wu suffered a serious spinal cord injury at Folsom Lake. The Bella Vista Track and Field/Cross Country teams want these two families to know that we are here to support them with prayers and that all of our hope goes with you.

It was sophomore Kendall Derry's turn in the very next race. Kendall had a dominating performance in the 1600 meters to win the Masters meet in 4:53.91. 2012/13 SJS Year In Review! Spring Review!

2015 Bella Vista Track and Field Announcements

Five Broncos Going To State Meet! (Results) (SacBee.com Article) Once again Bella Vista is sending five individual athletes to the CIF State Championships next week in Clovis. Three more athletes from Friday's Sac Joaquin Section Finals will accompany Shelby Dozier and Wyatt Doughty to Buchanan High School. Senior long jumper Alex Skondras (video of 21-11 jump) had a huge personal best on his final jump to not only qualify for the state meet but win the Masters championship. Alex was sitting in 5th place going into the final round of jumps and needed to jump the state meet at large mark of at least 22-10 to qualify. He surpased that mark by a whopping 8 inches jumping 23-06 to win the Masters title and secure a trip down south.

Coming off of a long injury junior Kendall Derry showed great form in her specialties the 800 meters (video) and 1600 meters (video) placing 2nd in both. This is the 3rd year in a row that Kendall has qualified for the state meet.

Bella Vista's final event of the night had Drew Childs going for a spot to the state meet. Drew place 4th in this meet last year missing the state meet by one place. This year Drew made sure that he was in the top three by running a personal best 9:10.98 (video) for a very solid 3rd place. This will be Drew's first appearance in the state meet!

We will be traveling down to Buchanan High School in Clovis next week. The Trials are on Friday and Finals on Saturday. The live results link will be posted on the home page and most state meet information can be found at this link. If you can't make it down to the meet cheer for us at home by following the action from bvtrack.com! (posted 5-30-15)

Shelby Dozier and Wyatt Doughty First To Qualify For The Big Show! (photos) (Results) (Kendall Derry Interview) Day one of the Sac Joaquin Section (SJS) Masters meet proved to be a very productive one for the Broncos on Thursday. The hot and humid Elk Grove High School Stadium was home to the SJS Masters Trials but the heat didn't seem to bother high jumper Shelby Dozier and discus thrower Wyatt Doughty in their quest to keep their season going for another week.

Shelby was the first Bronco to qualify for the California State Meet, to be held next Friday and Saturday at Buchanan High School in Clovis CA. With a clutch performance on her last attempt at 5-03 she showed great clearance making the height and securing the last girls' high jump spot to Clovis from our section.

Shelby Dozier Makes State

Wyatt was able to put a solid throw out in the sector early on in the competition throwing 162-11 to take second place into the finals. That throw allowed him to hold on to second place and punched his second ticket in a row to next weeks state championships.

Wyatt Doughty Takes 2nd at 2015 SJS Masters

We also had a school record broken during the Thursday night trials. The 4 x 400 relay team of Carly Kleefeld, Brook Eberle, Kaitlin Derry, and Jasmyne Dunn broke a 23 year old school record running 3:59.65 to take the number one spot all time in that event. That means that in 2015 our girls broke the school record in the 4 x 100, 4 x 400, 4 x 800, and 4 x 1600! Looks like I need to buy four more school record plaques before the year ends!

We have a few more Broncos who have a shot at the state meet going tomorrow so stay tuned! (posted 5-28-15)

BV Track Applebee's Fundraiser!

WE NEED YOU!!!!!

We are putting on a Fundraiser at Applebee's (2170 Golden Centre Ln, Gold River, CA 95670) to support the Bella Vista Track & Field Team on Saturday May 16 from 8:00-10:00 a.m..  Tickets are only $10 for breakfast which includes 2 large delicious pancakes, 2 pieces of bacon, breakfast potatoes, orange juice, coffee and fountain beverages. Since we are such a large team, we are not going to hand out tickets to sell until you hand us the $ for the tickets. So we need you to pre-sell tickets and turn in your money quickly to receive those tickets. We HAVE to sell a minimum of 100 tickets which should be easy, breezy if everyone on our team buys at least one ticket. We do have an upper limit of 300 tickets so this is a first come, first serve basis to getting the tickets. So, super important to bring your money as soon as possible to the track and get those tickets.

Tyler and Brittney McCown's mom, Korinne Yee is heading up this fundraiser for us.  She will be at the track on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at the beginning of practice. If anybody wants to bring her money, they can do it then. If you have any questions or need to make arrangements with her, her email is k.yee@comcast.net.

We also need about 15 volunteers (16 years and older) to serve and bus the day of the event which is a commitment of 2.5 hours (about 7:40 to 10:15 am the day of the event). Volunteers will receive a free breakfast. They will be considered on a first come first serve basis. Parents are welcome to volunteer if they want.

I would like to challenge you all to sell those tickets quickly and let's max out on this fundraiser with Applebee's!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SUPPORTING YOUR TEAM!!

Kendall Derry led the way as only Kendall can with CVC wins in the 800m and an all time mark in the 400 meters. On Saturday at the Dublin Distance Fiesta she won the 800 meters with a meet record 2:12.84 (video)! This mark is second all time in school history and as of this weekend is the top girls 800 meter time in the state of California! As a team the Broncos won the varsity boys, varsity girls, and frosh/soph boys divisions at the CVC meet and placed second in the frosh/soph girls (results) (CVC Team Standings).

All Time List Watch: Because of the SAT test and a nasty virus the Broncos were at about 50% strength at the Sturgeon Invitational but that didn't stop them from putting several athletes on the all time lists. Senior David Perez was the lone boy debuting at number 21 in the shot put with a personal best 46-03. On the girls side freshman Jasmyne Dunn rocketed up the sprint lists with two top 10 performances running a 13.08 100 meters (9th all time) and a 26.69 200 meters (7th all time) winning both of her frosh/soph races. Junior Tara Kalemba impoved on her 17th position in the discus throwing 88-06 and finally in the pole vault freshman Sadye Peschke had a personal best of 9-06 to win the girls frosh/soph pole vault. The mark was good for number 13 all time. Also in the pole vault sophomore Jade Von Aesch cracked the lists with an 8-00 clearance which ties her for number 25. The scoring actually started in the 98 degree heat on Wednesday when Kourtney Gwin took 4th in the pole vault and Tara Kalemba 6th in the discus good enough to qualify both to the Masters meet the following week. That meant that the BV girls began Friday with 5 points. High jumper Shelby Dozier was the first to add to the scoring by winning the DII-III high jump in a quick but dramatic jump off into a strong head wind. Shelby went 5-03 for her first divisional section title.

Next the girls 4 x 100 (Sadye Peschke, Carly Kleefeld, Kendra Worthington, Emma Barthel) placed 5th good for 2 points (video). Carly Kleefeld finished 6th to add yet another point to our team score (video). The hurdles proved to be extremely productive for the Broncos where Sadye Peschke won two SJS Divisional golds in the 100 (video) and 300 hurdles (video) in the pouring rain.

BV Track and Field Noodle Fundraiser: The Bella Vista Track and Field Team will be having a fundraiser at Noodles & Company on April 5 from 5:00 to 9:00 pm on 6123 Sunrise Blvd. Bring in this flyer or mention Bella Vista Track and Field, buy some noodles, and we receive 25% of the sales!

April 6 Buses: We have two buses reserved for the April 6 meet at Cosumnes Oaks HS that will take us to the meet, drop us off and then leave. Those athletes that take the bus to the meet must find a ride home. Team members are not required to ride the bus if they have their own ride to the meet. Coach U needs to get an accurate count of how many would like to take the bus to the meet to see if we will have enough team members to justify paying to get them. Please let Coach U know if you want to take the bus to the April 6 meet at practice on Tuesday or Wednesday. Distance runners let your coach know and they will get the numbers to me.
