Week of May 28 to June 2

Awards Banquet Highlights: A big thanks for all those who helped with our end of the year awards banquet.  This years special awards went to: Varsity Boys: Ken Hansen for most outstanding field athlete, Adam Holman for most outstanding track athlete, Steve Bjork for most valuable athlete. Varsity Girls: Katie Nishimura for most outstanding field athlete, Alli Kline for most outstanding track athlete, Eva Blume for most valuable athlete. Frosh/Soph Boys: Jim Ashen and Robert Gertz for most outstanding field athlete, Sean Deogracia for most outstanding track athlete, Tanner Parkinson for most valuable athlete.  The final two athletes of the week were announced as well. Week 4 (week of April 16): The girls winner was Ashley McAllister for her pole vault p.r. and the boys winner was Gerrell Cain for winning his first two varsit events.  Week 5 (week of May 7 C.A.L. Finals): The girls winner was an easy pick going to Megan Munoz for winning the League title in the high jump and for the boys Sean McAllister for taking 2nd in the pole vault.  Outstanding job everyone! Now on to the state meet.

Week of May 21 to May 27

Katie and Ken do it again!: The Broncos will have a representative at the C.I.F. State Championships from both the boys and girls team next week.  Katie Nishimura placed second with a vault of 11' 2" breaking the old section meet record by seven inches!  Ken Hansen, hot off a state meet triple jump qualification on Wednesday, placed second in the high jump with a leap of 6' 4".  Congratulations to both of you.  We need to have as many people come out to Hughes Stadium as we can get to support these two athletes!  The Trials are on Friday, June 1.

Ken Hansen Makes State! On Wednesday, May 23 at the U.C. Davis Track and Field stadium, Ken Hansen placed third in the triple jump with a jump of 44' 2" making him the first Bronco in 2001 to qualify to the C.I.F State meet to be held at Hughes Stadium (Sacramento City College) on June 1 and 2.  Congratulations Ken!

C.A.L. Championships: The 2001 Capital Athletic League Finals will be held at Nevada Union High School on Thursday, May 10 (map).  Our team buses leave at 10:30 am from Bella Vista.  We will be returning to BV around 8:00 pm.  For those competing at the Frosh/Soph level this will be your last meet of the year.  For those at the varsity level you must place in the top six in your event to qualify to the sub-section meet next week at American River College.  Good luck to all!

Awards Banquet:  Our awards banquet will be on Wednesday, May 30 this year at the Bella Vista cafeteria.  More information will be sent home soon.

Week of April 23 to April 28

All Time Performances!!: The Broncos traveled to Nevada Union high school on Friday (April 27) ready to make a statement.... and they did!  The varsity boys and girls posted six new all time performances in one meet.  Katie Nishimura won the girls pole vault breaking her own school record by vaulting 11' 6" and once again leads the section in that event.  Katie was supported by a personal best and number two all time performance by Ashley McAllister who vaulted 9' 0".  The varsity boys put up four all time performances led by Ken Hansen's number three all time mark and section leading high jump of 6' 6".  Sean McAllister also posted a field event all time list performance pole vaulting 13' 6" for a tie at number seven.  On the track Adam Holman made his first appearance on the 800 meter list at number eight with a time of 1:57.65 and Steve Bjork moved up to number seven all time in the 300 Intermediate Hurdles clocking a 40.10 for first place.  At all divisions including frosh/soph boys the Broncos had 19 seasonal or personal bests.  For every Bella Vista result click on meet results at top of page.

Intersquad Meet:  We will have a quick intersquad meet on Tuesday, May 1.  Any parents who would like to help out are welcome.

Week of April 16 to April 20

League Champs!!!: The Broncos had their last home meet of  the season of beating El Camino and Rio Americano at all three divisions.  By winning on Wednesday, the Frosh/Soph boys went undefeated in the Capital Athletic League taking the league title over seven other schools!  The Varsity Boys and Girls placed second in the C.A.L. with their wins as well.

Meet moved to this week:  Our meet with El Camino and Rio Americano has been moved from April 25 to this Wednesday, April 18 at 3:30 pm.  Make sure to mark it on your schedule.  Any parents willing to held... we need help!  Thanks for your support.

All Time List: Adam Holman cracked the 1600 meter all time list at Arcadia with a 4:25.72 clocking!  Watch for Adam in the next few weeks.

Week of April 2 to April 6

Athletes of the week: Week 1 (week of March 19) The girls athlete of the week was 800/1600 runner Kelly Dorey and the boys winner was long jumper Jim AshenWeek 2 (week of March 26) The honor this week goes to thrower Stephanie Zimbelman and the boys award goes to miler/2 miler/steeplechaser Nick Thompson. Week 3 (week of April 2) Finally, the athletes of the week for this week are... for the girls horizontal jumper Nina Winstead and the boys award goes to hurdler Alex Stout.

Thanks!  A big thanks to all the parents and athletes who helped out at the Bronco Invitational.  We got a lot of compliments on how well the meet was run.  We truly could not do it without you.

Oh... and we won too.  The Bronco Boys Varsity team took first place at our own invitational!  With the girls getting third place and the JV getting fifth Bella Vista also took the overall championship.

Meets this week: Only one meet this week and then a well deserved rest.  Nevada Union and Davis will be at Bella Vista this week on Wednesday, April 4.  The meet begins at 3:30.  Any parents who would like to help are welcome.  We always need help.

Week of March 19 to March 24

Meets this week:  We have two meets this week. One on Wednesday, March 21 at Bella Vista against Casa Roble and Del Campo starting at 3:30 pm. We also have one on Saturday, March 24 at Placer (Placer Relays) High School (map) beginning at 9:00 am for the field events and 9:30 am for the running events.  As with most weekend invitationals this meet has limited entries allowed for every event.  There will be a schedule provided this week for those athletes entered in the meet.  

Add Sales:  We are now selling adds for the Mizuno Bella Vista Bronco Invitational meet program held on March 31.  We need to get all add copy to Coach U by March 24.  We will have a contest for who sells the most adds (individually and team) much like we did with the Bronco Cards Sale.  This is a very important fund raiser for our team and a way to make a lot of money.  Start selling today.  If you have any questions on who to sell to ask Coach U.

Week of March 12 to March 17

Meets this week:  The Broncos have only one meet this week on Saturday, March 17.  The Woodland Invitational at Woodland High School beginning at 9:30 am for both field and running events.  As with most weekend invitationals this meet has limited entries allowed for every event.  There will be a schedule provided this week for those athletes entered in the meet.

Week of March 5 to March 10

Meets this week:  We have a home triangular meet with Ponderosa and San Juan on Wednesday, March 7 and the Pony Express Relays on Saturday, March 10 at Cordova High School.  In the Pony Express Relays all events are a relay format.  I will have meet schedules and event assignments by Thursday.  We will try our best to get everyone into a relay.

Sacramento Jamboree:  The Broncos had their first invitational of 2001 at Cordova and had many standouts from each division.  In the Varsity Boys division Sean McAllister won the pole vault at 13' 0" and Ken Hansen won the high jump at 6' 2".  For the Varsity Girls Katie Nishimura won the pole vault at 10' 0" and Megan Munoz and Eva Blume tied for first in the high jump.  JV boys standouts included Gerrell Cain with a second in the 200 meters, Tanner Parkinson with three thirds in the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and high jump and Jim Ashen with a first place finish in the long jump.

Week of February 26 - March 3

Meets this week:  Our first meet of the year will be Wednesday, February 28 at Oakmont High School.  Wednesday is a minimum day so each athlete is responsible for their own ride.  Everyone should be at Oakmont no later than 2:15 pm.  Event assignments will be discussed on Monday, and Tuesday.  The Sacramento Jamboree will be on Friday, March 2 at 12:00 pm at Cordova High School.  Athletes will be excused 3rd through 6th period.  Meet schedules and event assignments will be handed out on Thursday, March 1.  Again, we do not have buses for this meet so each athlete is responsible for their own ride.

Track Work Day Date Changed: Because of rain the track work day has been changed to Saturday, March 3 at 10:00 am.  This is every athletes first chance to earn volunteer points toward their letter award.  Bring shovels (both round and flat), wheelbarrows, weed-eaters, working gloves etc. It usually takes about 3 hours.  There will be a sign-in/sign-out sheet there for athletes to record their hours.  We need to get as many team members out as possible.  See you there.

Card Sales: A big thanks to everyone who helped out with the card sale on Friday.  We could not have done it without the help of Coach Grush and the BV Football Boosters.  Also, thanks to all of the track parents who helped out and finally the athletes who sold the cards.  The totals are not in yet but it looks like we made between $2000 and $2200.  Great job everyone!

Week of February 19 - 24

Inter-squad Meet:  We have decided to cancel the inter-squad meet.  The weather has not cooperated so we are looking forward to next Wednesday (Feb. 28) when we will be going to Oakmont High School and Friday (March 2) when we will be going to the Sacramento Jamboree at Cordova High School.  All athletes will be responsible for getting their own transportation to next weeks meets.  There will be maps to each meet and meet schedule information as well as individual team entry information by Monday (Feb. 26) of next week. 

Bronco Card Sales Blitz: 1. Pre-sale: Pre-sell as many cards as you can between Tuesday and Friday. Talk to your family, friends and as many people in your neighborhood as you can. Parents are a good source. Ask them about who would be best to try to sell to. Use the pre-sale recording sheet to keep track of your sales.  2. Sales Blitz On Friday, February 23 meet in the small gym at 3:00 pm sharp to pick up your bronco cards and meet with your group leader.  Sales run from 3:30 to 7:30 where you will collect money for the cards and at the same time try to sell more.  Meet back in the small gym at 7:30 for prizes, pizza and drinks. 3. What do you get out of this?: a. Sell 10 cards get one free (which you can keep our try to sell) b. Top 2 pre-sellers get $1 per card c. Top 2 sellers get $1 per card d. Seller of 12 or more get to grab from the money bag (bag has 20’s, 5’s, 1’s and a 50 dollar bill) e. Seller of 15 or more get a shot at the money bag plus a free t-shirt. f. Leaders of the top 2 selling groups get 1$ per card sold by their group.

Rules Packets: If you did not pick up your rules packet you need to do so to receive your uniform.  There are four things in the packet that you need to return.  1) The Bella Vista Track Guide rules sign-off sheet. 2) The Bella Vista Athletics Department Policies sign-off sheet. 3) The travel form 4) An emergency card.  Again, you need to return these documents signed to the coaching staff (boys to Coach U, girls to Coach Fagundes) before you can get your uniform.  Uniforms will be given out to those who get their paperwork in on Tuesday, February 20 starting with the Juniors and Seniors.
