C.A.L. Finals Highlights (5-13-04) C.A.L. Finals Results!:  We had some Broncos move up higher on the all time lists and some new faces show up as well.  Freshman Veronica Stimson moved up the ladder in the high jump moving from a tie for 6th place to a tie for 5th place by jumping 5' 2" also good for her first CAL Championship!  Senior Brysun Stately and sophomore Tiffany Yu made their first appearance on the 300 hurdle and triple jump list respectively.  Brysun ran 50.84c for 10th on the 300 hurdle list and Tiffany jumped 32' 1" also good for 10th on the all time triple jump list.  Freshman Colton Harmon broke the freshman school record in the discus throwing 131' 5" while taking fourth place in the varsity competition.

The following Varsity Athletes were CAL Champions and because of this made the CAL All League Track and Field Team:  Michael Gertz - Pole Vault, Michael Kaufman - High Jump, Derek Porter - Triple Jump, Lauren Hoffman - 400 meters, Tara Harmon - 3200 meters, Veronica Stimson - High Jump, Brysun Stately - Pole Vault (CAL All League Team).

Although there is no all league team for the frosh/soph boys we did have quite a few league champions from Bella Vista.  Freshman Ben Lehmann was a double winner in the 1600 and 3200 meters.  Josh Benton, also a freshman won the 110 meter hurdles and the high jump.  Nick Hein won the long jump, Aaron Harbert - triple jump, Ryan Stadler - shot put, Sam Corcos - Triple Jump.  Our 4 x 100 relay team of Sam Corcos, Ryan Smith, Josh Benton, and Greg Schirmer took home first place as well.

PR News From Nevada Union Invite: Another great meet for the Broncos at Nevada Union HS on Friday (5-7-04).  Super Frosh Lauren Hoffman tied the BV school record in the 200 meters with a 25.94c clocking and in winning the 400 meters set a NU Invite meet record for the frosh/soph girls division with a time of 59.9.  Senior Nicole Garces set a personal record of 33' 10" moving her to number 6 all time in the triple jump.  The vertical jumpers also did well with Freshman Sami Hartley taking 5th place with a PR 10' 6" vault and Junior Brysun Stately vaulting 11' 0" also her PR and moving her into a tie for second place all time in the pole vault.  Other personal records of note - freshman Dan Rosanski jumped 5' 8" in the high jump, junior Mike Gertz went 13' 0" in the pole vault, junior Julian David jumped 39' 3" in the triple jump, Freshman Kim Dorey ran 2:32.0 in the 800 meters.

Athletes of the week for 4/19 to 4/24: High jumper Jackie Bardosi for the girls.  She set personal records in the high jump at Wednesday's center meet (4'10") and then again on Saturday at the Bronco Invitational (5' 0") for 5th place and also made the all time list.  Pole vaulter Michael Gertz won it for the boys with a PR performance at the same two meets (12' 6").

All Time Lists Update From the Bronco Invite:  Freshmen Lauren Hoffman came within 4/100's of a second of breaking the school record in the 200 meters at the Bronco Invitational (April 24).  Her time of 25.98 (5th place at the Bronco Invite) puts her in 3rd place all time in that event.  Also, sophomore Jackie Bardosi made her first appearance on an all time list at the same meet with her 5'0" clearance in the high jump which was good for 4th place at the meet and makes her tied for 9th place all time!  Freshmen Josh Benton broke the freshmen school record in the 110 meter hurdles clocking 16.45.  His time was also better than the sophomore school record as well.  Pretty good for someone who wanted to quit hurdling and try a different event.

Personal Records Abound!:  At the CAL Center Meet # 3 (4-21-04) the Broncos posted several personal records (PR's) and a few moved up on the all time list again!  Leading the way was Lauren Hoffman with her 59.34c 400 meter win she climbed up the all time list to a solid 5th place.  Lauren also ran 26.84c in the 200 meters good for a tie for 6th all time.  Not to be out done Junior Sara Wang jumped onto the pole vault all time list at a tie for the 5th spot with a vault of 9' 0".  Some of the many PR's that were achieved on Wednesday were Derek Porter - Long Jump 20' 8" and Triple Jump - 41' 4.50", Jackie Bardosi - High Jump 4' 10", Colton Harmon - Discus 115' 11", Jenny Downs - Shot Put 29' 6" and Discus 80' 10", many more!!!!

I Need Video:  I have not taken much video this year for the end of the year video I make.  If you are interested in helping email Coach U at daveu@surewest.net.  I have a camera you can use.  The best time to do it is this Saturday 4-24 at BV.  I will need to talk with you to let you know what I need.

McAllister Breaks 11 foot Barrier:  On Friday, April 16 competing in the Woody Wilson Invitational at U.C. Davis, senior Ashley McAllister pole vaulted 11' 0".  That vault was good for second place at the prestigious meet and moved her into second place on the all time list!  She also has the second best vault in the Sac Joaquin Section this season and is only 3 inches behind the leader.

BV's Woody Wilson Qualifiers: Girls Pole Vault - Ashley McAllister, Brysun Stately, Sami Hartley, Kari McAllister, Veronica Stimson (Amy Balch - 11th alternate), Boys High Jump - Mike Kaufman (Dallin Parkinson 8th alternate), Boys Triple Jump - Alex Yu, Girls High Jump - Veronica Stimson, Girls Triple Jump (Nicole Garces 7th alternate), Girls 400 Meters - (Lauren Hoffman - 4th alternate),  Girls 3200 Meters - (Tara Harmon 3rd alternate), Girls 4 x 400 Relay - (Kim Dorey, Brysun Stately, Ashley McAllister, Lauren Hoffman).

Athletes of the week for 3/29 to 4/3: For the girls the award goes to freshman pole vaulter Sami Hartley.  On Saturday, April 3 she won her first invitational ever beating a field of 16 other schools!  For the boys Junior Jack Reilly gets the nod for his gutty performance in the 1600 meters.  After falling down he still came back to PR!

Another List For Hoffman! On Wednesday, March 31 freshmen Lauren Hoffman found herself on another of BV's all time lists.  This time she won the 400 meters at the CAL Center Meet 2 running a season best 61.14c good for 7th place all time.  She also ran 27.24c which improved her 10th place time in the 200 meters.  Our freshmen girls just keep getting better and better!  What will it be like in four years?!!!!

Athletes of the week for 3/15 to 3/20:  Every year we give out an athlete of the week award to a boy and girl for the weeks when we have league meets.  The center meet and league finals dates are March 17, March 31, April 21, and May13.  Last weeks awards went to Tiffany Yu for her performance in the first center meet.  She placed 4th in the triple jump with a 30' 6.50" and 6th in the long jump at 14' 4".  The boys winner was Greg Imamura for his gutty performance while he was sick in the same meet in the1600 (2nd at 4:56.2) and the 3200 (3rd at 10:57.7).  Athletes will receive a "Bella Vista Athlete of the Week" t-shirt.  Nice job Tiffany and Greg!

BV Accepted Athletes To Stanford Invitational: The following athletes have been accepted into the Stanford Track and Field Invitational on March 26 and 27.  On Friday March 26 at 5:00 pm Ashley McAllister and Sami Hartley will be in the pole vault.  On Saturday March 27 Nicole Garces - triple jump (9:30 am),  Alex Yu - triple jump (9:15 am), Veronica Stimson - high jump (9:15 am),  Dallin Parkinson and Michael Kaufman - High Jump (11:15 am).

Hoffman and Luse Make All Time Lists! At the first CAL center meet on March 17, 2004 freshman Lauren Hoffman moved onto the 10th spot on the all time list for the 200 meters running 27.34c and sophomore Michelle Luse entered the 400 meter all time list with a tie for 8th place by running 62.44c.

More Movement On The All Time List!:  It seems like every meet we have freshmen Veronica Stimson advances on an all time list.  On March 13, 2004 at the Capital Athletic League Invitational Veronica moved from a tie for 8th at 5' 0" to a tie for 7th by jumping 5' 1".  That jump was good for a 3rd place finish at the meet.  The crowded girls pole vault list got a little less crowded at the same meet when Kari McAllister vaulted 9' 0" to move her up to a tie for 5th with Veronica.  It now takes 8' 6" or better to make the girls pole vault all time list.  Most schools school records aren't 8' 6"!

A Record and Moving Up on The All Time List!: At the Clark Massey Memorial Relays on Saturday, March 6 freshmen pole vaulter Sami Hartley broke the freshmen school record held by Katie Nishimura (1999) and Ashley McAllister (2001) of 9' 6" by vaulting 10' 0".  Her 10' 0" clearance was also good enough to move her into 4th place all time in the pole vault.  Fellow freshmen Veronica Stimson moved up to 5th on the all time list in the pole vault for the second straight week clearing 9' 0" at the same meet. These two freshmen ladies combined efforts were good enough to take first place in the pole vault relay team competition against all other varsity competition. Looks like blue skies for Coach Taft for the next for years.  Another mark to note was Alex Yu's 42' 1" triple jump.  A very fine effort this early in the season.

All Time And Just A Freshmen:  In just her first meet as a Bronco without knowing it freshmen Veronica Stimson made Bella Vista's all time list in two events.  In a meet against Ponderosa and San Juan (3-3-04) her 8' 6" performance in the pole vault places her tied for 5th all time and her 5' 0" clearance in the high jump makes her tied for 8th place in the high jump.  Way to go Veronica!  It will be exciting to see what she can do with the rest of the season in front of her.  Another mark of note - Ashley McAllister vaulted 10' 6".  An excellent early season mark making her one of the top vaulters in the section this year.

We Need Officials: Parents - we need some help with officiating for our meet on Wednesday, March 3.  I have not had many parents sign up to help time or work at the field events.  If you have some time please come by.  We need people to help measure, rake, record, and time.

Thanks To All!  On Thursday, February 26 we had our annual Bronco Card Sale and if early totals are correct it looks like it was a huge success!  We brought in over $4,600.00 in sales and gave away over $400.00 in cash prizes.  Even though it rained a bit everyone who showed up had free pizza and soda so it turned out to be a pretty good time.  Thanks to all of the members of our team who donated their time to go out and sell the cards and to the parents for transporting and buying.  A special thanks to Lee Dorey, Jacqui McAllister, and Doug Grush for helping out Thursday night with organizing the drive.

Turn In Your Paperwork!: To receive your uniform you must first hand in your emergency card and rules sign off sheet.  Girls give yours to Coach Fagundes and boys to Coach U.  Both should be filled out and signed by a parent/guardian and the rules sheet should be signed by the athlete.  Our first meet is on Wednesday, February 25 so get it in on Monday!

Thanks! A big thanks to Justin Farabee for his generous donation of some shelves for our storage bin.  This is going to make it a lot easier to organize things and it has created more room for us to buy more stuff! 2-17-04

Fleet Feet Spike Night:  Fleet Feet at the corner of  Madison Avenue and Fair Oaks Blvd. is having its annual "Spike Night" on Thursday, February 19 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  Track spikes will be on sale to BV track athletes for 15% off.

Practice Schedule 2-16-04 to 2-20-04:  All groups will meet Monday through Friday with their event coach during the following times - Pole Vaulters will meet with Coach Taft at 10:00 am, Jumpers will meet at 1:00 pm.  Distance runners will meet with Coach Fagundes at 10:00 am.  Throwers meet at 3:00 pm with Coach Myer and sprinters and Hurdlers will meet at 3:30 pm with Coach Haynes.    If an athlete does different events they should meet with there primary coach to discuss a workable schedule.  Athletes who's primary event is sprinting or hurdling but also do a jumping event should follow this schedule - High Jumpers Tuesday & Friday, Long/Triple Jumpers Monday & Thursday then work with Coach Haynes the remaining three days.

Track and Field Team Parent Meeting: We will have our Spring Sports Parent Meeting on Wednesday, February 11 in the large gym - please make this date part of your schedule. From 6:30 - 7:00 pm Bella Vista Athletic Director Mike Lee will talk to the parents of new BV athletes for all of the spring sports about how high school athletics works and what to expect.  It is very important that we get new athlete parents to the 6:30 meeting, it'll answer a lot of questions.  You need not attend the 6:30 session if you have already gone through it with another sport this year or last year.

At 7:00 pm sharp he will be done and send the parents off to meet with the coaches for each individual sport parent meeting.  The track team parent meeting will not leave the large gym as we have the largest group.  We will begin at 7:00 pm when the gym is clear of the other sport groups.  Times to remember: 6:30 - General athletics meeting in large gym for all spring sports.  7:00 pm - Track and Field team parent meeting in large gym.

Topics for the track meeting will include team rules, goals, competition schedule, travel to away meets, fund raising and other volunteer opportunities.  Hope to see everyone there!

Physical Clearance In?  If you have had your physical turn in your clearance slip to Coach U before our February 2 start date.  This will help us save time during the first few days of practice.

2004 Season Track and Field Team Meeting: There will be a track and field team meeting on Wednesday, December 10 at lunch in the big gym.  This is a very important meeting to attend to receive information about the up-coming track and field season.  If you have any friends who want to come out make sure that they attend!
