2008 Bella Vista Track and Field Announcements

BV Track and Field Awards Night Highlights! For the first time ever the Bella Vista High School track and field team awards night was held outdoors at Fair Oaks park on a cool, breezy Wednesday evening.  There was an avalanche of trophies and plaques given out this May 28 and the following is me doing my best to recount it all.  Special awards were given out (plaques) to those who made the top ten all time list or broke a school or class record.  To view those recipients follow this link to the all time list page and and this link to the school records page and look for the names highlighted in bold print.  We gave out a total of 20 school record and all time list plaques!  Next MVP and Most Outstanding awards were given out to each team.  First for the frosh/soph boys team:  sprinter Jordan Archie (10) received the Most Valuable Athlete award, jumper Jesse Delbono (10) won for Most Outstanding Field Athlete, and distance ace James Dietler-Bennion (9) took home the Most Outstanding Track Athlete award.  Varsity girls winners were:  jumper/vaulter Angie Charles (9) and jumper/vaulter/sprinter Emily Bush (11) for Most Valuable Athletes, vaulter Diane McAllister (12) for Most Outstanding Field Athlete, and jumper/sprinter Megan Capistrano (10) for Most Outstanding Track Athlete.  A surprised Megan was also awarded the Capital Athletic Leagues Most Valuable Athlete award based on her performance in CAL league center meets and league finals as voted on by the CAL head track and field coaches.  Finally the varsity boys winners were: jumper/hurdler Keith Lester (12) for Most Valuable Athlete, jumper Eric Rice (11) for Most Outstanding Field Athlete, and jumper/hurdler James Dills (11) for Most Outstanding Track Athlete.  The last awards given out were the Senior Awards given to the senior team members who have successfully completed four years of track and field at Bella Vista.  Diane McAllister was the lone senior girl to receive the award this year.  The award was also given to three boys, Keith Lester, Jeff Weaver, and Anthony Fagundes.  As you can see Bella Vista Track and Field enjoyed much success in 2008.  Boys and girls league titles, numerous school records and personal records, and a state meet birth.  With so many of our top athletes returning next year it looks like a very bright future for the Broncos!  It is now time to take a well deserved rest and then get geared up for next year!  Thanks so much to all of the athletes and their parents for such a great year.  U

Athletes of the Week (Center Meet 3): Two more Broncos were named athlete of the week for the week of CAL center meet 3.  For the boys Paul Pineda won the award for another great performance in the 300 hurdles as well as solidly scoring in the 100 and 200.  On the girls side Corinna Farris got the nod for scoring in all four of her events (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles, triple jump and high jump.  Congratulations to both athletes!

Athletes of the Week (Center Meet 1 & 2):  Every year the Bella Vista Track and Field program give an athlete of the week award to deserving team members during the weeks we have a CAL meet.  This year for the week of the first center meet Maddie Benton won the award for her performance in the 300 hurdles and 800 meters and Keith Lester won it for the boys for stepping in and scoring big in the hurdles and triple jump.  For the second center meet Leah Parrish won for winning the shot put and discus and showing a gutty performance in the 800 meters and for the boys Jordan Archie won for his improvement in the 100 and 200 meters.
