Bella Vista Girls Win Sac Joaquin Section D2 Title! (May 9, 2019) On a cold, breezy Thursday night at American River College the BV girls showed some grit and team depth as they won the SJS D2 Girls Track and Field Championships, the girls fifth title since 2013. Their depth was on display as they scored points in every jumping event, the 100 meters, 800 meters, 3200 meters, 4 x 100 Relay and both hurdles.

2019 SJS D2 Champs

The scoring actually started off on Tuesday with the girls long jump and pole vault. In the long jump the Broncos showed their jumping depth going first, second and third amassing 24 team points and that was just the beginning. Sophomore Reyna Dismukes took home the long jump gold with a mark of 18-02 with senior Zoe Pantis close behind at 18-01.50. Senior Emma Barthel opened the competition with a 17-11.50 effort and had some monster scratches in the finals so look for big things from her next week!

In the pole vault freshman Shae Wright posted a huge personal record (PR) vaulting 10-03 taking third place and contributing 6 points to the team total. Junior Delaney Rosefield also stepped up with a big PR vaulting 9-03 good for 6th place and one more point for the team. The Broncos ended the first day with 31 points coming from only two events.

At Thursday's finals the Broncos kept it rolling starting it off with a first time section title in the high jump for freshman Isabella Chilcutt. Chilly went 5-06 to tie the meet record and out distance second place by half of a foot. 10 more points were awarded to the Broncos making their total 41 going into the running events.

2019 BV Girls 4 x 100

As the running events started the BV girls 4 x 100 relay team of Zoe Pantis, Reyna Dismukes, Rachel Radcliff and Emma Barthel were looking to add to the team total. Coming in the second seed from Tuesday's prelims, the girls performed flawlessly and took home the gold running 48.37 (video). The win gave BV 10 more points for a total of 51.

The next scoring opportunity for BV was the 100 hurdles and it was Isabella Chilcutt's turn once again to see if she could contribute. A strong headwind made it a tough race but Chilly was able to run one of her best races clocking 16.56 (video) placing 5th and putting two more points on the board for the Broncos. Right about the same time Chilly was running the 100 hurdles, Rachel Radcliff was bringing home second place in the triple jump going 35-07 and piling up 8 more points. At this point the Broncos were looking strong with 61 points.

A solid outing by Emma Barthel in the 100 meters (video) into that same strong headwind and a massive PR from Abigail Rasmussen in the 800 meters (video) chalked up 8 more points making it 69 total. Emma posted a 12.77 time into a -2.9 wind and Abi recorded a 2:24.68 time moving her to number 21 all time in school history.

When the sun started to get low on the horizon around the time the 300 hurdlers were scheduled to go, the temperature began to drop and the wind picked up even more. None of that seemed to matter to Isabella Chilcutt and Sarah Unterholzner as they posted solid times in the 300 hurdles (video) with Chilly finishing 6th meaning another valuable point went our way. We were feeling very confident at this point with 70 points but it wasn't finished yet.

To rap up the scoring, freshman Leila Swenson powered home a personal best in the 3200 meters (video) running a time of 11:46.29 moving her up to number 15 all time in school history and good for fourth place and 4 points. In all BV had 74 points outdistancing second place Gregori HS by 12.

The BV boys placed a solid third in the team scoring with senior Damian King winning BV's lone individual event section title taking first in the 3200 meters (video) along with a 3rd in the 1600 meters (video). Other great performances by the boys were Dennis Strelchik, 4th in the long jump, Cameron Anderson, 2nd in the 800 meters (video) with a number 5 all time performance running 1:56.75. Chris Gilmer-Wren and Spencer Cochran each placed 3rd in the discus/shot put and 3200 meters repectively.

The Broncos are sending 16 athletes in 20 entries to next weeks SJS Masters Meet. Zoe Pantis (long jump, 4x100 relay), Reyna Dismukes (long jump, 4x100 relay), Rachel Radcliff (triple jump, 4x100 relay), Emma Barthel (long jump, 4x100 relay, 100 meters), Abigail Rasmussen (800 meters), Leila Swenson (3200 meters), Isabella Chilcutt (100 hurdles, high jump), Sarah Unterholzner (300 hurdles), Shae Wright (pole vault), Delaney Rosefield (pole vault) Dennis Strelchik (long jump), Chris Gilmer-Wren (discus, shot put), Nick Hvidsten (shot put), Damian King (3200 meters), Bruce Marlatt (3200 meters), Cameron Anderson (800 meters).

It was definitely a memorable night for Bella Vista Track and Field! Check back for meet schedule and live results links as the week progresses. GO BRONCOS!

Our first meet of the year provided:

GO BRONCOS!

Clarke Massey Relays Schedule: Bella Vista entries for Saturday's Relays can now be viewed by athlete or by event. Athletes should arrive at Cordova High School one hour before their event is scheduled to start. Running events will be run in what we call a "rolling schedule" meaning they will start at 8:45 am and after that follow the order on the schedule. However, after the 8:45 am start the times for each event will be uncertain. Below is an estimated time schedule for the running events. Remember this is a best guess so plan to be at Cordova High School well in advance of this guess.

8:45 am - 3200's
9:30 am - shuttle hurdles
10:30 am - 4 x 100's
11:30 am - 4 x 800's
12:15 pm - Sprint Medley Relays
1:15 pm - 4 x 200's
2:00 pm - Distance Medley Relays
2:50 pm - 4 x 400's
3:40 pm – end

The first round of field events start at 9:00 am and you should figure it will take about 2 hours for each division so if you are scheduled for a 9:00 am field event be at Cordova at 8:00 am. If you are schedule for the second field event be at Cordova at 10:00 am and for the third field event be there at 12:00 pm. Field event athletes click the "order of events" link above to view when you are scheduled to compete.

Everyone should exchange cell numbers with someone on their relay team and/or field event team just in case the schedule moves faster than expected. That way we can call you and let you know to arrive earlier.

You will need to provide your own transportation to Cordova High School so secure that in advance!

Additional Arrival and Parking Information:

Spectator Entry Fee: Adults-$6.00 Student/Senior -$4.00.

There are two entries into the stadium – Team entrance if for athletes and coaches in uniform only!! Tell your assistants to have on team apparel. Please drive down Chase Drive. Just past the Performing Arts Center (PAC), (just before you enter Hagen Park on the right) you will see Lancer Lane on the right before the park.

Buses: Travel down Lancer Lane until you reach the stadium on the right. You will drop off there  and then park in front of the school in the PAC parking.

For car stadium parking, proceed past the PAC beyond the yellow gate and please do not block in other cars. Park in Designated parking spots only!!!

Do not attempt to depart through the park, as the gate may be locked. If the gate is open you may leave that way.

At Cordova HS on Saturday there will be Regional Science Bowl, Softball Tournament, and a Baseball Tournament so please remind your parents/bus drivers to go down Lancer Lane to the stadium if they turn in too early they will have to walk through the campus to get the stadium. See everyone Saturday for a great early season meet.

Practice Schedule for February Break (Feb 18-22):

(posted 2-15-19)

Time Trial and Clarke Massey Relays Update:

  1. Our first official meet is the Clarke Massey Relays on February 23 at Cordova High School. This is a relay meet meaning all races are relay only (except one 3200m) and all field events are in teams. We realize that the meet is at the end of the February break but the coaches need to know if you can't make it. Please let your event coach know this week if you can't make it and we will replace your relay/field team spot with someone who can.
  2. We are monitoring the weather and if it is raining Friday afternoon we will have a modified training session at 3:45 at Del Campo instead of the time trial. Either way meet at DC at 3:45 pm.
  3. A practice schedule for next week will be posted here in a few days.

Practice Schedule for Week 4 (Feb 11 to Feb 15): As of right now the district will not be able to provide a bus for us to travel to our practices at Del Campo. This means that we are on our own but I think we are up to the challenge. Keep working on securing a ride for yourself. See below for next weeks practice schedule.

It never rains out a practice at Bella Vista so we will practice rain or shine!

Sprinters, Hurdlers and Jumpers

Throwers

Distance Runners (800 meters, 1600 meters and 3200 meters)

Practice Schedule for Week 3 (Feb 4 to Feb 8): As of right now the district will not be able to provide a bus for us to travel to our practices at Del Campo. This means that we are on our own but I think we are up to the challenge. Keep working on securing a ride for yourself. See below for next weeks practice schedule.

Practice Schedule for Week 2 (Jan 28 to Feb 1): Below is next week's practice schedule for the sprinters, hurdlers, and field event athletes. The distance runners schedule will be emailed to you as always. Throwers (shot put and discus) will meet at Bella Vista every day after school until February 4 (2:00 pm on Thursdays).

To avoid injury and to train properly we need to get the team on a safe running surface. This is the reason that we will be meeting at Del Campo a few days a week. We are asking for parent help to transport your kids to Del Campo until our track is completed. We realize this is an inconvenience but practicing on the surface we will compete on is vital to our athletes development. Thanks for understanding!

Important Practice Information: Below is a check list of sorts that will hopefully keep you all up to speed on what is happening the next few weeks with Bella Vista Track and Field. I will be posting practice plan updates on this page as we figure out our options in the coming weeks. The coaching staff is working very hard to create a practice environment where we don't lose any training time as we wait for our track to be available.

  1. You Must Be Cleared to Start Practice: Follow this link to view your clearance status. Pre-season conditioning begins Tuesday, January 22 (see below).
  2. Where will we practice without a track? Good question! During the first week (Jan 22 to Jan 25) we plan to meet and train at BV but we will eventually need a track to train properly. We have plans to meet at Casa Roble High School (distance runners - 800 meters, 1600m, 3200m) and Del Campo High School (field event athletes, sprinters and hurdlers) after next week but have not worked out a schedule yet. While we wait for our track to be completed, our plan is to have some workouts at BV and some at the other high schools. By early next week we should have a practice schedule out to you that extends beyond January 28 along with transportation options (I am looking into possibly getting a bus to Del Campo). Stay tuned!
  3. Winter Sport Athletes (Basketball, Soccer, Wrestling) If you are currently in a winter sport you must finish that season before you join the track team.

Remind.com Text Messaging with Verizon: If your phone carrier is Verizon Wireless you will no longer be able to receive text messages from Bella Vista Track and Field starting January 28, 2019. However, you can still receive the messages if you download the remind app or sign up for email messages.

Verizon raised its rates and remind.com can't afford to use them anymore. Since remind.com is free to schools we will adapt and continue to use them. Sorry for any inconvenience. (posted 1-18-19)

Track and Field Pre-Season Conditioning: The Bella Vista Track and Field Team will begin pre-season conditioning starting Tuesday, January 22 at 3:25 pm. Meet at BV in in front of the weight room and wear something you can work out in. You will need to be cleared through the BV athletics department before you can participate. For information on the clearance process follow this link.

It's January and it could be cold so bring a sweatshirt and sweatpants that you can warm up in and wear when you are done. We will meet every week day Monday through Friday with the exception of Monday, January 21 because of the Holiday.

Athletes who are currently in a winter sport (basketball, soccer & wrestling) need to finish the winter sport season before they can join the track team. (posted 1-8-19)
